MQ – Museumsquartier
Near the city center in the 7th district you can find the “Museumsquartier”.
Originally it served as a court stable for the old monarchy. Today it consists out of a big yard surrounded by museums a theater, and places for dance performances. In the yard there are sometimes concerts and in summer young people meet there to have a beer and chill. In winter you can also have some “Glühwein” (hot red wine) there. In the Mumok (Museum of Modern Art) you can see works of Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol.
The Leopold museum focuses more on austrian art. It has the worlds biggest collection of paintings by Egon Schiele and also an extensive Gustav Klimt collection. If you like contemporary dance performances, the “Tanzquartier Wien” might be the right thing for you. In their performances they also include also other genres like visual art, theatre and film, to contribute in this way to social discourses in an experimental and open way.
If you have searched for a place where you can combine good old beer drinking with some culture, you have found it!
